Everest Base Camp - Himalayas

The trek starts immediately after a day of visiting Kathmandu and enjoying the hospitality of the Sherpa guesthouse and transition point in Kathmandu. Participants will stay overnight in the famous Kathmandu Guest House in the center of the city, followed by one of the world’s most exciting plane rides to Lukla where the trek begins.

The group will spend 5-8 hours a day moving through the region, taking in the breathtaking views and visiting with the locals, seeing the monasteries, and enjoying food grown right from each area.

Those members wishing to stay below 13,500 ft and who prefer a wider circuit and exploration of the monasteries will be welcome to stay with Sherpa guides for a quieter and less rigorous route. The monastery tour group has the option of flying back to Kathmandu and leaving as early as April 16, depending on individuals’ schedules. Or they can move more slowly in the Everest Region meeting back with the EBC group on the 18th.

The main group will move toward Everest Base Camp to get an up close and personal view of Nuptse, Lhotse, and of course Mt. Everest.

Both groups will enjoy the warm and hearty guiding on Sherpa guides, assistant guides, and porters. Our trek offers more than a simple up and back hike with mountain views. Joel has been working intimately with the Sherpa for many years, producing a 2013 documentary on corneal transplant there, and having trekked and guided in many of Nepal’s trekking routes. His connections with Sherpa and his photographic teaching make the trek an culturally fascinating experience, with more tools to capture the essence of the people and their mountains.

Joel Addams will act as the trip leader and the workshop leader during your stay. His experience in Nepal includes medical research in 2006, multiple trips for completing a documentary on eye care in Nepal (“Before I Burn” 2013), and trekking multiple areas including Khumbu, Langtang, and Annapurna Region. He led one of the early treks after the earthquakes of 2015 in the Khumbu region, successfully leading a photography group on a similar Monastery Tour.
